Bio
Saxophonist, woodwind doubler, and jazz educator, Brian Murphy is a graduate of the Humber College music program. During his studies, Brian studied with some of Canada’s finest woodwind players, including Pat LaBarbera, Alex Dean, Mark Promane and Brian Lillos.
In 2008, Brian moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to begin his Masters Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) where is was awarded a Graduate Assistantship. During his studies in Las Vegas, Brian had the opportunity to study with Phil Wigfall (Celine Dion) and Nathan Tanouye (Celine Dion). As a student, Brian had the opportunity to perform with George Garzone, Marlena Shaw, Joe LaBarbera, Bob Sheppard, Bill Cunliffe, and Eric Marienthal.
After graduation in 2010, Brian began teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Jazz Woodwinds at UNLV in the College of Fine Arts, while maintaining a very busy performance schedule. During this time, Brian had the opportunity to perform with The Four Tops, The Temptations, Bobby Rydell, The Righteous Brothers, and Matt Goss on the famous Las Vegas Strip. Brian was also the first call substitute for both Reed 1 and Reed 2 on Vegas! The Show at the Planet Hollywood Miracle Mile Shops, doubling on saxophones, flute, and clarinet.
Brian has extensive musical theatre experience, including Forbidden Broadway, Smokey Joe’s Café, A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum, It’s A Grand Night for Singing, and Disney’s Beauty and The Beast.
Brian returned to Canada in the summer of 2017 with his family to continue teaching and performing in Southern Ontario.
